Postdoctoral Teaching Scholars Appointed in Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies appointed two postdoctoral teaching scholars in Fall 2021 to help it cover teaching needs arising from the retirement of Barbara Levenbook, professor of philosophy, and the resignation of Kevin Richardson, assistant professor of philosophy, at the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
Ben Bryan works in ethics, political philosophy and philosophy of law. He has a B.S. in Political Science and Philosophy from Belmont University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Bowling Green State University, where he submitted a dissertation on Natural Rights and Convention. He has published five sole-authored articles in professional journals.
Before coming to NC State, Ben taught at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has also taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has served as a scholar in residence at the University of Colorado Boulder. At NC State he will teach courses on the philosophy of law, ethical problems in the law and contemporary moral issues.
Ben Middleton works in logic, formal philosophy and metaphysics. He has a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, where he submitted a dissertation entitled A New Solution to the Curry Paradox. He has published one co-authored article and two sole-authored articles in professional journals and is currently working on a book for Routledge entitled Truth: The Basics, which he is co-authoring with Jc Beall of the University of Notre Dame.
Previously a postdoctoral teaching scholar at the University of Notre Dame, Ben will teach courses on beginning and advanced logic, philosophy of language and representation, reason and reality at NC State.
